The Dramatists Guild of America is a national organization that relies on the U.S. Post Office to deliver our magazine, The Dramatist, notices, member cards, invoices, dues payments, regional event promotions and helps us communicate with 8,900 members across the United States and abroad.
As you may have heard, the US Post Office, under the current Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, recently made a series of substantial cuts which removed mail sorting machines, postal boxes, employee hours and more. Many are concerned that these far-reaching cuts will amount to voter suppression for the millions of Americans who rely on mail ballots as their sole method of voter participation.
Earlier this week, public outcry to postal cuts forced Postmaster General DeJoy to announce that postal delivery changes will halt until after the 2020 election.
That is not enough. Small businesses and non-profits rely on the USPS in order to function. Any disruption of service, during a pandemic no less, prevents us from serving our community in all ways. The Postmaster General must restore full Post Office services and staff availability before the November 3, 2020 election.
