Northern California theatre companies continue to face the challenges of COVID, simultaneously navigating issues like equity regarding mask policies and how to sustain themselves financially. Some beloved companies like PianoFight and Exit Theatre announced their closures this past season. Many others have had to reduce the number of shows they produce per season considerably and have relied on well-known titles to entice audiences back to their houses. Every world premiere this past season is nothing short of a miracle, and it’s a testament to this region’s resilience that we saw several new works produced.
