Welina me ke aloha mai Ko Hawai‘i Pae ‘āina! Similar to our counterparts on the continent, Hawai‘i’s theatre community followed the national trend to go dark in response to the pandemic in 2020. The pause and indefinite postponement of productions and tours posed a great challenge for the professional, community, and university theatre programs across our archipelago. Hawai‘i’s resilience and creativity began to surface during the summer of 2020.

is a playwright and the artistic director of Ka Hālau Hanakeaka, a Hawaiian medium theatre troupe. Her work centers on the development of an indigenous Hawaiian theatre aesthetic and form, Hawaiian language revitalization, and the empowerment of cultural identity through stage performance.
is a playwright from Kea‘au, Hawai‘i. He is the author of Mū, Vitae, Brought to Bear, and Kūpe‘e (winner of 2019 Kumu Kahua Playwriting Contest). He has written the book and lyrics for the Hawaiian operas Hā‘upu, Kū I Ka Mana, Pai‘ea, and The Battle of Kuamo‘o. He teaches at Kamehameha High School in Kea‘au. www.hppragman.com
