Masi Asare
MASI ASARE is a composer, lyricist, and playwright. She is co-lyricist of the Broadway musical PARADISE SQUARE (Ethel Barrymore Theatre, Nederlander Theatre in Chicago). Other shows include: THE FAMILY RESEMBLANCE (book/music/lyrics; Theatre Royal Stratford East commission, developed O’Neill Center); MONSOON WEDDING (lyrics; to tour internationally in 2022-23); SYMPATHY JONES (music/lyrics/concept; NYMF/Playscripts); the play MIRROR OF MOST VALUE (Marvel/Samuel French); and commissions from Barbara Whitman/Grove Entertainment and Victory Gardens Theatre. A past Dramatists Guild Fellow, Masi received the inaugural Billie Burke Ziegfeld Award for a woman composer of musicals; the Holof Lyricist Award and Haupt Composition Prize from the O’Neill Center; the Stacey Mindich "Go Write A Musical" Lilly Award; and an emerging artist grant from the Theater Hall of Fame. She was named a 2021 "Woman to Watch on Broadway" by Broadway Women's Fund.
