The Western half of New England is a region that contains some of our nation’s most historic theatres, a vast array of educational theatres, and innovative small theatres. From Long Island Sound to the mountains of the Berkshires and Vermont, this season featured devised works, solo shows, festivals and readings (live and streaming), and, of course, many full productions. A surprising number of world premieres populated the region’s 2022 theatre seasons. Here are highlights from theatres in the area that not only focus on new play development, but who also provide opportunities for fully-staged productions.
