Patricia Milton
Patricia Milton’s plays include: "The Victorian Ladies' Detective Collective” (2019)“Bamboozled” (2018), “Hearts of Palm” (2016), "Enemies: Foreign and Domestic" (2015), and "Reduction in Force" (2011), all for Central Works Theatre. She is a recipient of the 2015 Outstanding World Premiere Play by Theatre Bay Area for “Enemies: Foreign and Domestic.” “Reduction in Force” was voted 2011 “Best Local Play” in Broadway World’s annual poll. She is Central Works’ Resident Playwright and a long-term member of the Central Works Writers Workshop. Her comedy “Believers” has enjoyed productions in Monterey and San Francisco, and played for three years in Istanbul, Turkey. Her drama about the death penalty, “Without Mercy” was presented at the Newfoundland Women’s Work Festival and was produced by Off Broadway West Theatre Company in San Francisco in 2017. She is co-author with Andrew Black of three plays, including "Strange Bedfellows" (Theatre Out, Khaos Theatre) and "It’s Murder, Mary!" (New Conservatory Theatre Center and others). Her musicals include "Not Without Our Women" (lyrics and libretto), with Andrew Black and Caroline Altman, and "Moments of Truth" (libretto) with Caroline Altman, which premiered in 2016 at 3Girls Theatre, and was a finalist for the national Women in Arts & Media Collaboration Award.
She is under commission by New Conservatory Theatre Center to write a new comedy to premiere in its 2020/21 Season. In 2016 she was in residence at the HBMG Writers Retreat in Creede, CO, and at Arts, Letters + Numbers in upstate New York. In 2017, she was playwright in residence at La Porte Peinte Centre pour les Arts, Noyers sur Serein, France. In 2018 she participated in a summer residency at the Mud House Arts Center in Crete. In 2019, she was in residence at Vermont Studio Center.
Patricia has been a Titan Finalist in the Theatre Bay Area ATLAS Program, has won two regional playwriting competitions (in New Mexico and Texas), and was an award winner at the Eudora Welty New Play Festival in Jackson, Mississippi. Her full-length play “Solving Sunflowers” was read at the Last Frontier Theatre Festival in Valdez, Alaska. She has had more than one hundred productions and readings of her short plays internationally, including at the San Francisco Exploratorium, PlayGround SF, Woman’s Will, Women’s Theatre Project, Bay Area One Acts, and City Lights Theatre. She has participated in the Playwrights Foundation’s One Minute Play Festival and Flash Plays! for the past six years. She has taught ten-minute playwriting for Playwrights Center of San Francisco.
