Puerto Rican playwrights lead the way with creative collaboration, and community-building language inclusion.
T
wo years ago, we—two members of the Dramatists Guild of America living in Puerto Rico—advocated to have the region officially recognized by the DG. We quickly became the DG Reps for PR, then came up with the idea that to get powerful recognition as an essential part of the American theatre, Puerto Rican playwrights should pool their resources and networks, join their voices, and get loud. Tere started making some calls to fellow playwrights.

She has worked with theatrical pioneers Anna Deavere Smith and Eve Ensler and has created initiatives for and consulted with such organizations as The Rubin Museum of Art, NYU’s School for Art & Public Policy, The Actors Fund Home, Educators for Social Responsibility, The Institute on the Arts & Civic Dialogue, Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, Urban Stages, and WP Theater.
