Last year’s report from the Southwest shared information about transitioning and transformation in the midst of COVID. This year’s report sees the region rebounding with creativity and perseverance. Our largest companies continue to thrive while our smaller and mid-sized theatres work to get back to consistent, full productions. Overall, theatre seasons included more stalwart favorites than premieres, but new work could be found premiering on Southwest stages.

John Perovich

’s plays have been presented throughout the Phoenix Metro area and he has been selected multiple times for the Valdez Theatre Conference. Perovich’s play, Spy Love You, received the 2019 ariZoni Award for Best Original Script. He is a frequent dramaturg for the Festival of New American Theatre at The Phoenix Theatre Company.
