Playwright
Teresa Coleman Wash is a producer, playwright and founding artistic director of the Bishop Arts Theatre Center in Dallas, TX. She received a Master’s degree in Arts Management from Goucher College and a BA in Business Administration from Albany State University. Wash contributes to the Dallas Morning News Voices column, and is an alumni of The OpEd Project through the Dallas Public Greenhouses sponsored by the Boone Family Foundation. Select creative writing credits include Succeeding Beyond The Limits, The Color Of Love, Delayed But Not Denied, Audacity: A Celebration of African American Achievement, and There’s No Business In Show Business to name a few.

Wash led her board in securing over $1.2M to renovate the blighted facility. Construction began in 2006 and, despite a downward spiral economy, was complete in 2008. Today, the Bishop Arts Theatre is an intimate 170-seat proscenium theatre with dressing rooms, an art gallery, executive offices, a learning lab, two skyboxes, and an arts business incubator center. The theatre receives critical acclaim and has been nationally recognized for its innovative new plays festivals, socially relevant performances. world class jazz series, and year-round student outreach programs. In 2017, Wash was elected to the Dramatists Guild of America Council representing the Southern region where she has also served as the Dallas/Ft. Worth regional representative since 2012. She is also the recipient of many awards and accolades, most recently the 2016 Dallas Observer MasterMind Award, and Wash was nominated for a 2017 Obelisk Award in the category of Visionary Arts Leader. In 2011, she received the Trailblazer Award for the National Association for the Study and Performance of African-American Music, Radio One & Southwest Airlines State Fair Classic Community Service Award, and the Professional Women's Association Mabel Meshack White Award. She serves on the Steering Committee for Visit Dallas and the Dallas Area Cultural Advocacy Coalition.
