In October 2021, the Dramatists Guild hosted its very first Educator Appreciation Week. The week of special online programming celebrated the vital bond between dramatists and educators, who often work together to nurture creativity within their communities.
At this webinar, panelists Michael Chemers of UC Santa Cruz and Gregg Henry of The Kennedy Center discussed how stakeholders on college campuses can resolve the tensions that have arisen between the value of free expression on the one hand, and the intense and overdue imperative to advance values of diversity, equity, and inclusion on the other.
In addition, the Dramatists Legal Defense Fund presented their new toolkit: Dramatic Changes: A Guide to Producing Live Stage Works on College Campuses in the 21st Century. This document attempts to provide practical guidance and share observations about the challenging process of presenting theatrical productions on college campuses today.
