"Seeking composer to collaborate on an in process new musical about the unhoused population living in the tunnels of New York City. A synopsis of the project: "Beneath the streets of New York City lies a maze of subway tunnels over 740 miles long and 18 stories deep. Built in the early 1900s, as transportation and technology progressed, the need for many of the city’s tunnels and stations became obsolete. By the end of the 20th century, many of these tunnels had been forgotten. Urban legends began to rumor of underground civilizations. Societal outcasts who had begun to seek shelter and build a life for themselves in the nooks and crannies of the forgotten passageways under the city’s surface. Inspired by true stories, this musical guides us through the underground tunnel system. A narrator acts as our guide, taking the audience into the tunnels, as they are introduced to the stories of the people who live their lives beneath New York City’s surface. Along the way we meet long-time residents and part-time dwellers of various backgrounds: artists, teachers, addicts, veterans, immigrants, mothers, children, and murderers. Through close examination of the lives of those who seek shelter underground and circumstances that led them there, we learn that the basic need for community, love, and purpose exists in the darkest of places, and parallels to topside life begin to emerge. As their stories are told through a series of songs in a variety of styles including jazz, rock, folk, and gospel, we begin to see the line of life above and below blur. With the similarities and differences illuminated, we exit the tunnels asking: how far am I from this? What really separates us? How long can I hold on to my morals? To what lengths am I willing to go to survive? Should anyone have to resort to life underground?" "
