For Theatres: if you would like to provide more information on your Playwrights Welcome status and other details, please contact Ella Andrew.
For Playwrights: if you would like to take advantage of the Playwrights Welcome program via one of the below theatres, we encourage you to reach out directly to them to see if they are currently offering the program. If you find that a particular theatre on this list is not honoring Playwrights Welcome requests at this time, please be in touch with questions@dramatistsguild.com.
It all starts with the writer. It is their contribution that excites, inspires, and helps us to experience the world in new ways. And we are all aware that attending theatre is an integral part of how writers learn their craft and grow as artists. Playwrights Welcome is a program created to support and inspire these writers, while also encouraging theaters nationwide to do the same.
Playwrights Welcome offers available tickets to professional playwrights on the day of a performance, free of charge. These are tickets that would otherwise go unsold; we believe that no theater should give away a ticket that could be sold.
Developed for the Dramatists Guild of America members, Playwrights Welcome is a free national ticketing initiative created and administered by Concord Theatricals, along with Dramatists Play Service, Dramatic Publishing, Music Theatre International, Playscripts, and Rodgers and Hammerstein.
This program was created from a desire to support the artistic health of our industry’s writers, and by extension, the vibrancy of the American theatre.
Any tickets that would otherwise go unsold are eligible. If you’re interested in seeing a show at one of the theatres, simply show up at their box office before curtain and ask if they have any Playwrights Welcome tickets available. If they do, you will need to present your physical or digital Dramatists Guild membership card, as well as your ID.
For Writers

Check if your local theater offers Playwrights Welcome. New theaters are being added on a regular basis, so be sure to check back every so often.
Call the box office to confirm their Playwrights Welcome policies. Every box office works differently, and some theaters may have specific reservation processes for Playwrights Welcome tickets. Call ahead to confirm these ticketing policies.
Pick up your tickets. If Playwrights Welcome tickets are available, you will need to present your Dramatists Guild membership card, as well as your id when you arrive at the theater. Then, enjoy! If you do not have your member card, request a Member Verification letter here.
Promote Playwrights Welcome in your community. Spread the word about Playwrights Welcome to your fellow playwrights and local theaters. Your Dramatists Guild representatives are also great resources.

- Alliance Theatre (Atlanta)
The Alliance Theatre and the Guild’s Atlanta Region are once again joining forces to take part in the Playwrights Welcome program. This wonderful perk provides a comp ticket to Atlanta Region DG members for all 8 (non-holiday) shows in the Alliance’s 2019/2020 season. Interested members must reserve tickets in advance as a “subscription-style” package by clicking on this link: https://forms.gle/uQCVRaVwFjN9n2ZD9 (or pasting it into your browser).
You may choose to attend any or all of the productions but note that there is only one specific date available for each. Be sure to read the instructions on the reservation form before filling it in. The first show date on our roster is September 6th. The deadline for submitting the form is August 30. Note that the reservation link will close after that date and this subscription is no longer available. If you have any questions, please contact DG Regional Rep Pamela Turner (and please thank Associate Producer Amanda Watkins and Group Sales and Revenue Manager next time you see any of them for this wonderful opportunity.)
Playwrights Welcome is a national ticketing initiative developed for Dramatists Guild of America members by Samuel French along with the Dramatists Play Service, Dramatic Publishing, Music Theatre International, Playscripts, and Rodgers and Hammerstein. It actively promotes the idea that “attending theatre is an integral part to how writers learn their craft” and that “without their creativity and devotion” theatre would not exist. The Alliance is one of the few theatres in allowing advance reservations rather than the national model of only same-day “rush” tickets. This also allows for additional DG programming and activities in tandem with some of the shows. Further details about this will be sent to reservation holders as the relevant dates get closer.
