Pamela Turner is an Atlanta-based writer, director, teacher, and dramaturg whose world-view has been colored by growing up in the Pacific Northwest and fed by a nearly equal passion for theatre and Formula One racing. She has original play-writing credits in the United States, Europe, and the Pacific Islands. Selected regional U.S productions include Ravenwood, a podcast play commissioned by Found Stages Theatre (2017); Free-Dum (devised), commissioned for the Alliance Theatre’s 2013 Civil War (Collision) Project; Burning Man, Circle Ensemble Theatre Company 2012 season; Hidden Man, premiered in 2012 at University Theatre (University of Georgia) and remounted as part of the 2011/2012 season at 7 Stages Theatre;  Simple Answers and Girl Washing commissioned for the 2012 and the 2013 One-minute Play Festival at Actors Express. Other selected productions include The Further Adventures of Louise Heavingbodice, 2011Independent Actors Theatre Short Play Festival; The Judas Gospel, Theatre Rats 4th Annual Chester Horn Festival (2008); Voices Deux, 2007 Atelier Stage New Play Series; Male Man, Theatre Rats’ 3rd Annual Chester Horn Festival (2007 - “Outstanding Playwright”), also selected for the 2009 Working Title Playwrights-Essential Theatre Essential Shorts Festival and as a 2006 Heideman Award finalist; Cosmeticos, selected for Center for Puppetry Arts 2006 Adult Xperimental Puppetry Series;  Funny Valentine, produced in 2004 at 7 Stages Theatre and selected for the 2004 Piccolo Spoleto Festival USA (also winner of the 2006 American Theatre Coop Playwriting Competition); The Lady and the Poet, commissioned by Atlanta’s Theatre Gael in 1994, remounted again in 2003, and selected for the 2003 Piccolo Spoleto Festival USA; and Valentines Day, produced in 2001 by Pulse Theatre Ensemble, NYC, and published in the play collection Bind them Continuously…(College of Charleston Press).

Other selected projects include Keester, recipient of a 2017 Dramatist Guild Fund grant/staged reading with Out of Box Theatre, winner of the 2015 Ethel Wilson Award, and also an O’Neill Playwrights Conference semi-finalist; Final Resting Place, commissioned by The Jill Howarth Foundation 2017 MOJO Fest; Mother/Monster, a multi-media collaboration with Cine-Majik Design, Los Angeles; Faces, commissioned for development by 7 Stages Theatre and then a runner up for the First Annual Red Theatre Chicago Playwriting Competition and a semi-finalist for the 2013 Multi Stages (NYC) play competition; and Frijoles on the Side, commissioned by Fly-By Theatre. Majik! was selected for Theatre Emory’s Brave New Works II series and presented as a staged reading for the opening of Emory University’s Schwartz Center for Performing Arts.

 Pamela is the Atlanta Regional Rep for the Dramatists Guild of America and writes an “Atlanta Reports” column for The Dramatist; her feature article “The Alliance Theatre: a National Theatre with a Local Address” also appeared in the September/October 2012 issue. She served as Contributing Features Editor for ShowGuide Magazine, writing more than fifteen articles and has written for Atlanta Theatre Weekly and Samuel French's on-line publication On Character. Turner was the subject of an interview in Insights for Playwrights and was the inaugural writer selected for Atlanta's reading series “Playwrights and… sponsored by Poets and Writers Magazine. Her theoretical piece, “Women and Their Language”, was a chapter in Hélène Cixous: Critical Impressions (Gordon and Breach, 1999). With undergraduate degrees in Theatre and in Art from Portland State University and PhD in Performance Theory and Symbolic Anthropology from Emory University’s Institute of Liberal Arts, Pamela is co-founding Artistic Director of multiShades.atlanta and Director of Theatre and Film at Ben Franklin Academy.
